Does Pillcheck cover biological medications?

Modified on Mon, 5 Oct at 3:01 PM

No. Pillcheck’s test does not report on biologics, such as monoclonal antibodies, insulin, or other protein-based therapies. This is because:

  • Biologics are broken down by the body’s normal protein degradation pathways, not by the liver’s drug-metabolizing enzymes (like CYP2D6 or CYP2C19) that pharmacogenetic testing evaluates.

  • There are currently no pharmacogenetic variants with sufficient clinical evidence (per CPIC or DPWG guidelines) to predict how a person will respond to a given biologic.

As pharmacogenomic research evolves, this may change, and Pillcheck will update its test to reflect new clinically validated evidence.
